Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy held a review meeting on the Vizag metro rail project in Vijayawada on Wednesday
District Collector V Vinay Chand, GVMC Commissioner G Srijana and Amaravati Metro Rail Corporation managing director NP Ramakrishna Reddy were present at the meeting.
Though the CM had chaired a meeting to review the progress of various projects in the city just two days ago, Wednesday's meeting focused on the metro rail project.
Urban Mass Transit Company (UMTC), which is currently conducting a study on traffic forecasting, future vehicullar and population growth for the proposed 140 km metro rail project, is expected to submit its report in the next few weeks.
While the metro component of the project will be taken up in the first phase the tram-model public transport system will be developed in sparsely populated areas such as the beach front, pendurthi corridor etc in the second or third phase.
Even though the project will be taken up in the phases, a fresh detailed project report (DPR) will be prepared for all the proposed 140km network falling into the juridiction of the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA).
The state government recently retracted the earlier bids and decided to issue fresh tenders for th project. On the other hand, the AMRC may shift its office from Vijayawada to Visakhapatnam and it is likely to be located on the sixth floor of the VMRDA Office in Siripuram.
